Subject: March 21 Seminar Called A Success

Not without its bumps and bruises ...

THE 2004 LOCAL SEMINAR DEEMED A SUCCESS

[It takes a small, dedicated army to pull off
such an outstanding success.  Read on, and please
thank an individual in turn on your own (each
can be reached at callsign@amsat.org) or else
post your March 21 "favorite thing" and your
  comments.]

A LOCKED GATE and barbed-wire fences may stop
some souls on a mission, but by the close of Sunday
afternoon's Washington, D.C. area seminar and social
gathering in Greenbelt, the 83-minute delayed start
was largely forgotten by over fifty AMSAT members
and friends in attendance.

This is a "thank you" message, NOT a set of minutes
or a "what I liked/disliked about Sunday."  I'll leave
that commentary for others to post, and I hope there
are many such messages to behold.

THANK YOU to our presenters and story tellers who
provided the "meat and potatoes" of our gathering,
namely, ...

o Dan "Hubble Trouble" Schultz, N8FGV
o Scott "ARISS In Sight" Lindsey-Stevens, N3ASA
o Frank "Makin' It Happen In October" Bauer, KA3HDO
o Rick "Echo And Other Reflections" Hambly, W2GPS

[Break for introductions, announcements, group photo,
AMSAT birthday cake and ice cream, snacks and social
period.  Thank you to Perry Klein, W3PK, for the
  beautiful -- and tasty -- "35" cake!]
  To continue, ...

o Bob "Four Sat Juggler" Bruninga, WB4APR
o Tom "C-C Rider" Clark, W3IWI

THANK YOU to those who brought in hardware for a show
'n' tell demo (public descriptions inserted immediately
at the end of the break), namely, ...

o Heru "Mr. Microwave" Walmsley, W3WVV
o "Laser Ranger" Charlie Heisler, K3VDB
o David "Gulf Alpha" Bern, W2LNX
o Bob "Next Idea" Bruninga, WB4APR

THANK YOU for special guest appearances, namely, ...

o Martha, our HQ queen
o Art Feller, W4ART

THANK YOU to those AMSAT members whose mere presence
also demonstrates our respect and camaraderie with
other groups or causes, namely, ...

o Paul Rinaldo, W4RI (AMRAD)
o Tom Abernethy, W3TOM (ARRL)
o Chris Danly, KB3DMN (youth)
o Jim Gormley, N3SFY (emergency communications)
o Mike Fisher, N3VOP (CCARC ham of year)
o Gary Chatters, WA9ZZZ (talk-in guardian)

THANK YOU to those who pitched in, namely, ...

o Scott Lindsey-Stevens, N3ASA, for running the mid-day
drink refresh errand, and for counting and reporting
  the hat-passing* results.

o Tom W3IWI, Charlie K3VDB, David W2LNX, for photography
  or video services.

o Jim, for PowerPoint slide advance services when not
  upstaged by IR controllers.

o Those who helped move tables and chairs, A/V setup
  chores and clean up.

*Scott reported $196.00 in donations to go toward the
next gathering and incidental local needs.

THANK YOU to those who made access to the facility
possible, all things considered, namely, ...

o Dr. Bob Gabrys, Deputy, NASA GSFC Office of Public
  Affairs and GSFC Education Officer

o Mr. John E. Speargas, GSFC Security Division

THANK YOU for the publicity, namely, ...

o Bill Pasternak, WA6ITF (Newsline)
o Dan Blasberg, KA8YPY, FAR President (AutoCall)
o William Hatfield, W3QX (AutoCall)
o Scott Lindsey-Stevens, N3ASA (AMSAT News Service)
o Paul Williamson, KB5MU (amsat-dc, amsat-bb lists)
o Your name here (schools, ham clubs, office, etc.)

THANK YOU to Dick Daniels, W4PUJ, who sent in some
great "early AMSAT" and OSCAR anniversary photos; and
to Robin Haighton, VE3FRH, and Barry Baines, WD4ASW,
for the moral support.  Thank you to Rick W2GPS for
his planning ideas and advice.

*I* supplied the light pointer pen loaner.

Who did I miss?

And, hey, no more jokes about the locked gates and
other barriers that we AMSAT types have learned to
navigate so well!

Respectfully submitted,
